The design and construction techniques employed at The Mudhouse are often of particular interest to architects. For those wanting to learn more, we are more than happy to share our knowledge and experience of working with local materials and crafting environmentally sound structures.

Before starting The Mudhouse, we had no prior architectural training and have had to teach ourselves as we have gone along. Fortunately, we have been very lucky to have had some inspirational guests stay with us over the years who have shared valuable know-how and tips regarding architecture, landscaping and environmental planning.

One of the main joys of working with natural materials is that they constantly decay, meaning that all our structures change over the years. In this respect, we have been able to learn by trial and error about what works and what doesn’t.

Architectural student groups have visited us from various countries to look in greater detail at what we are doing here and learn from our successes and failures. We do not claim to be experts or qualified architects, but we have a wealth of experience in using local materials and designing a full spectrum of structures, by hand, that blend into the local environment. Please contact us if you or your party are interested in making this a more detailed feature of your stay.
